Missions

We see local missions as having at least two facets:

  1. Serving with a local ministry organization like Forgotten Ministries or Hope Outreach
  2. Loving people where we live, work and learn, reaching them with the gospel of Jesus Christ through word and deed.

We see global missions as any ministry done away from our community as part of our global outreach. This includes:

  1. Our support of career missionaries in places all over the world.
  2. The support of church planting in the US and abroad.
  3. Sending short-term teams to anywhere God leads us but most recently to Peru and Niger.
  4. Praying for unreached peoples.
  5. Other projects and initiatives (Forgotten Ministries, Compassion International, Voice of the Martyrs; Operation Christmas Child, etc...)

Mission as a Value

The concept of local and global missions is important for us but more importantly these events or practical ministries flow out of who we are called to be.

When Jesus called his disciples to himself before he ascended into heaven, he gave them and all the followers of Christ an identity that carried with it an impulse.  Followers of Christ or disciples of Jesus have inherited the command to go built right into who we are.

Matthew 28:18-20

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
